Privacy Policy

This statement is the Privacy Policy of the Swiss Finance Council (SFC). It covers any interaction you may have with the SFC.

The Privacy Policy is intended to inform you, for the purposes of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), about the data we collect, the purpose for collecting it, the way we use it and the rights you have regarding the processing, modification and deletion of your data.

Data controller

Collection of your data

We may collect your data:

  • when you register to one of our events;
  • when you give us your business card;
  • when you write or otherwise communicate with us;
  • when you provide us with information orally; or
  • via websites and public records where your data is given to allow for contacts.

SFC shall always collect and process personal data obtained from third parties in compliance with the GDPR and the terms of the Privacy Policy.

What is collected?

The following data may be collected: name, email address, job title, organization and country, phone numbers and information provided when you register for meetings and events, such as dietary requirements.

Use of your data

We will only use your data in connection with our ordinary professional activities. This may include:

  • Relaying information by communicating with you electronically in relation to events which we organise, information we publish or those we may sponsor or partner with any other organisation with whom we work;
  • For any purpose related to the foregoing or for any purpose for which you provided the personal data to SFC.

The processing of your personal data is based on our legitimate interest of promoting our events, activities and publications or on your consent allowing us to process your personal data for these purposes.

We may transfer your personal data to countries outside of the European Economic Area, namely to Switzerland. The European Commission has recognised Switzerland as providing an adequate level of protection for personal data.

In any case, we will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this policy and the GDPR.

We will retain your personal data only for the period necessary to fulfil the purposes outlined above, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.

Your rights

Provided all conditions provided by the GDPR are met, you may formulate the following requests in relation to the personal data we hold about you:

  • having access to your personal data;
  • asking an update or correction of your personal data in the event of inaccuracies;
  • exercising your right to portability on your personal data;
  • asking erasure of your personal data;
  • asking restriction of the processing of your personal data.

Furthermore, you have the right to object to the processing of your personal data, including for direct marketing purposes. More specifically, you have the right to object, on grounds relating to your particular situation, at any time to processing of personal data concerning you which is based on SFC’s legitimate interest. SFC shall no longer process the personal data unless it demonstrates compelling legitimate grounds for the processing which override your interests, rights and freedoms or for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims. Where personal data are processed for direct marketing purposes, you have the right to object at any time to processing of personal data concerning you for such marketing.


This Statement may be subject to updates or amendments, which will be available on our website. We encourage you to periodically review it to ensure that you are still happy with it. This Privacy Policy is effective from May 2018.
